Instructional Design

Even though I have designed training programs for corporate and government clients since 1990, it was the education I received in this area that added the most to my resumé through the course of the Learning Design and Technology Masters program at University of Colorado - Denver. Here are a few of my favorite samples of the Instructional Design work I’ve done. I can’t say I enjoyed every minute I spent producing these projects, but I certainly enjoy the confidence and skills I gained by sticking with them and finishing them. They make me very proud.

Solution design document (INTE 5100)

In Fall 2018, Kirk Lunsford and I developed an entire Instructional Design Solution for his company Worlds of WOW. Thankfully, Kirk is a graphic designer by profession. The more elegant graphics in this document are all his — but I would like to point out that the storyboard panels (made with the StoryboardThat website) are all mine. We shared the planning, the work, and the writing. You can view it here.

Adobe captivate punctuation training (INTE 5660)

This is the project that showed me just how much perseverance I possess. Completing this Captivate module taught me that I can figure out whatever technology challenges come my way. You’ll find the whole story in the reflection paper that accompanies this LDT basecamp — it’s the hardest work I did in this degree. Click here to view Module 2 (of 3) of my punctuation training program, created in Adobe Captivate. Please be aware that it is mounted on GitHub. You’re better off using the controls in the Captivate module itself than the ones displayed in the GitHub frame. The Design Document can be found here.

wix site (TEAM): automatic bias and naive realism (inte 6750)

One of the most delightful experiences of my degree program was working with Faustino Payan, Meredith Rosa, and Susan Laws to develop a website resource about issues related to automatic bias. (The video above is the 20-second introduction of our team from the site. See??? Aren’t they fun?) The four of us each took a section to research and develop: my section is the last one, Overcoming Bias: Exercises for the Online Classroom. This site was built in Wix, and Susan was our webmaster, responsible for making the site reasonably congruent. Follow this link to see the whole site. I’m very proud of how much we got done and how much helpful information we could share here.
